Default Hurts all responsible gun owners ....

I was watching a video of a man who shoots himself in the stomach to show that his bullet resistent vest would stop a 10 mm bullet ...guess he has never heard of how bullets can rupture organs even with a bullet resistent vest ... this kind of thing hurts the image of all responsible gun owners, makes me wonder what is happening to the gene pool?

    Cool

I can remember waaaaaay back in the day when Richard Davis, founder of Second Chance Body Armor, would travel the country shooting himself point blank while wearing one of his vests. Detroit was the city where this all started and many in the LEO community, especially Detroit PD, were very skeptical about the street performance of such a product, and some believed it was an outright rip-off. We're talking 70s here folks. Back then what Mr. Davis was selling sounded like voodoo.

Given the decision to put-up or shut-up, Mr. Davis decided to put-up. As I recall, over the years, he shot himself over a couple hundred times with calibers all the way up to .44 Magnum.

Mr. Davis was a pioneer and to prove to the world his product could really "fly", he knew he was going to have to get in it and "fly it" himself.

The rest is history. Cops lined up to buy them, first in Detroit, then all over the country. History dubbed Mr. Davis, "The Father of Soft Body Armor". His vests went on to be credited with saving the lives of over ONE THOUSAND LEOS in documented street shootings.

Obviously, in today's day and age, only an idiot would try this at home.

    Default I remember

I agree, I own a gold flex vest but it never occured to me to try the vest out except in real life situations ... not at home for entertainment of myself or anyone else. I also remember when the vests were beginning to hit the market and reading a story about a man demonstating the vest to maybe a lions club and he had his best friend stab him with a knife, the reluctent friend did stab him and he started continuing the lecture and passed out because the knife passed right thru the vest ... amazing product when used as intended. I spent five years having to wear a stab vest every day at work and that sucked a bunch because of the weight and stiffness but a great safety device but not nearly as comfortable as the bullet resistent vests.

I didn't think people still did this! I remember seeing a video of Mr. Davis shooting himself when I was like, 9 years old and I really though I was going to watch a man die! I was amazed when he lived, but I can't understand why people would think that that is a reasonable thing to do in these days.

It would be The Huffington Post that did the story. They love nothing better than to try and make us look stupid.

True, and unfortunately the media usually gets that job done with help from those who camp on our side of the fence.

You hit that one right on the head.
If Obama is the answer, the question must have been really stupid!

I received a video recently of a couple of guys, who looked a lot like gang-bangers to me, testing out a vest with a strike plate in it. The shooter took careful aim, all of 3 yds away, and proceeded to shoot his friend in the right arm. The arm was pretty much destroyed. These guys were obviously trying for a Darwin Award but didn't know it.
