    Default Aurora Colorado

Deeply saddened by last nights shooting. Makes me wonder how many other young men out there are struggling with the same thoughts and emotions as this shooter. Apparently no one saw this coming or if they did they did not take the warning signs to heart.

We need more sheepdogs and fewer sheep.

Just from the news reports, his mother seemed to have an idea something was not right. This is a very sad tragedy. Now watch the left spin this into gun control.

    Cool

Get ready for the lame-stream media to blame everyone and everything EXCEPT the premeditated MURDERER.

It's the violence in video games, it's TV, it's hollywood, it's society, it's the public schools, it's the gun laws, it's internet porn, he was spanked as a child, he wasn't spanked as a child, he wasn't breast-fed, he was breast-fed, he has a disorder, he's ill, it's the republicans, it's the NRA, it's the tea party, it's Guns & Ammo, it's the economy, it's the unemployment rate, and on and on, blah, blah, blah!

The gun ban crapola has already started (Bloomturd was the first that I heard).

Prohibition should be a reminder to anyone who knows history (and not all that long ago when you consider when all the restrictive laws in all the states were lifted). Once alcohol was made illegal, comsumption zoomed through the roof due to the fact that those who had not previously been drinkers suddenly found it to be a very attractive activity (the lure of the "cool" factor since it was illegal).

A thorough lack of understanding of human psychology (sociopaths/psychopaths will always be with us--and sometimes elected to government offices) is the underlying reason why stupid knee-jerk legislation does not solve any problems and the unintended consequences are often worse that the problem.

The above, in addition to the piles of data that prove that more guns equals less crime (John Lott), FBI stats, etc. means nothing to those who operate from an emotional plane rather than from a logical one. There is, however, the Rahm Emmanuel types (never let a good crisis go to waste) that see an occurrence of this nature as an opportunity to further their agenda and nothing else.

And the obvious is always ignored, like the fact that it has always been against the law to MURDER PEOPLE. If a man is going to ignore the law against murdering, what sane, rational human being could possibly believe a restrictive gun-law will ever stop such a madman? It never has, and it never will.

There was absolutely no way that this could have been avoided, from my point of view. Prior to this incident, this shooter was a lawful citizen. Being such, he was legally authorized to purchase firearms & ammunition as he pleased.
    As it should be.
However, it is clear that he planned this incident with much malice aforethought. Why? Only he can answer that, if he would, which from what I'm hearing isn't happening.
This just was not a preventable incident. If it were preventable(which is just not possible, even in a Utopian society!), then no one in this country would be allowed to have possession of firearms. Not a desired point of view, at least not for me.

Two other things here: 1)I keep hearing reports about "tear gas" being used as a precursor to the shooting, but I have yet to hear any reports about respiratory problems related to the use of such a device from any of the people that were present and talked to any media sources afterwards. It has been widely reported that he was wearing a protective gas mask at the time of the incident. Was it just 'smoke' devices, or was it really "tear gas" that was used? And 2)How come there was not one person in that theater that had a handgun on them? I do realize, and have heard, that this is one of those infamous "gun free" zones, but I just have a hard time believing that there was not one person inside that theater that was not armed and taking responsibility for his/her own self protection!

One last thought here......... this individual is obviously an intelligent person and had a very bright future ahead of him that would have led him to be a productive & meaningful member of American society. Something has happened to him to make him do something like this. He obviously needs some kind of help, albeit I am not sure exactly what because I am not a medical/mental health professional. Past that, however, what's done is done and he is 100% responsible for his actions, and should be dealt with in accordance to his Constitutional privileges and the state laws of Colorado.

And because of his intelligence he will be very good at "being" whatever he has to in order to convince a jury to come up with the most lenient outcome possible.

I haven't heard anything else in regard to his mother's statement that they "had the right guy" that was broadcast initially.

From what I've heard so far I have to agree with you, Suncat, nothing could have done to prevent this. Life is dangerous at times and bad things do happen and always will.

The largest mass murder in U.S. history was carried out with deceit, boxcutters and airplanes. The second largest was with racing fuel and fertilizer. Prior to that you need to go back to the wild west to reach into the hundreds civilians killed. The tools were spears and bows and arrows. The civilians of that era were glad for all the firepower they could aquire.

On November 14 1935 German Jews were disarmed, they were not allowed to have guns, ammo, clubs or stabbing tools, as they had no way to fight back over six million were killed.

"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is asine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or native police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order throughout the occupied Russian territories, and a system of military strong-points must be evolved to cover the entire occupied country." --Adolf Hitler

It now turns out that Holmes may have been under the care of a University psychiatrist who may have been given a notebook containing a discreption of the planned attack. Under current laws the psychiatrist should have reported this type of threat.

Have we just abandoned common sense?

    Default compareing killers ....

I totally agree with everything being said on this forum on this subject but I was struck by the fact that Americas first serial killer of any note was a guy named ..."H.H. Holmes" ..I just found that interesting, If you want to spend about 45 minutes watching a documentary that will show how a very intelligent psychopath thinks .. watch the netflix movie called ....H.H.Holmes ... very well done and opens eyes to the threats posed and how easy it is to be fooled by the criminals who live among us now.
