9mm Sub Compact Single Stack
A nicely done comparison of some of today's most popular small 9mms by the Firearm Patriot. The Ruger LC9 is a great pistol...however from my experience in firearms instruction, it is a pistol that is best for experienced shooters. If a new shooter buys this gun, especially ladies, the light weight of the gun and the shorter grip length expose "limp wristing" issues. If you "limp wrist" a gun, it will most always cause a failure to feed. I would NOT recommend a sub-compact pistol to any new shooter!Originally Posted by Jim Trueblood

Excellent points. Every time I've worked with a newbie they are attracted to the ultra small, ultra light handguns because they judge them simply by size and weight. It's not till they get them out on the range and shoot them that they realize they're difficult to shoot well and sometimes rather unpleasant. If it's for concealed carry I always direct newbies into compact, not sub-compact. For instance the Ruger SR9 Compact is a much better choice for a newbie than the LC9.

I have found this to be right as well. I ALWAYS recommend that a person buys a compact rather than a sub-compact if they're a new gun owner. Besides, what is that first rule of owning a handgun that you'll shoot regularly? Does it fit comfortably in your hand? If it fits in your hand and is comfortable, then shooting it and hitting your target will probably be a lot easier. Caliber notwithstanding. That just stands to reason.
