Thread: Carrying in prohibited places!

    Default Carrying in prohibited places!

So here's a question that sprang to mind in another thread. And the source of my poll.....

I walked into a mall the other day, and the sticker on the entrance prohibited weapons of any kind. Guns, knives, etc....

Yet, directly attached to that entrance is a Dix Sporting Goods. They sell knives, guns, ammo, bats, paintball guns, etc....

If you cant have a gun in the mall, how can you purchase one in Dix and be legal?

What would you do if this was the situation?

    Carry?
    or
    Leave it in your vehicle?

I'm thinking Dix would escort you out the door if you purchased one there.

I don't frequent malls, so I haven't had that issue. I have carried in places where you're not supposed to, but with a purse carry situation, it's highly unlikely I'd be found out. My most recent no-no carry situation was the gun show. Go figure!

I will only leave mine in my vehicle if there are metal detectors or if it's a definite prohibited situation (not just a sign) like when I went to the casino recently. Not risking it in there. I'm not sure what would happen if I was arrested by Cherokee police. Might be like being arrested in Mexico?? LOL! Too scary for me!

I carry anywhere the State of Texas says is legal. I have never seen a business that is outside the specific "thou shall not’s" that had a sign with the correct size and wording according to State statute. Even then I would most likely ignore it, or I wouldn’t patronize the business.

I carry my pistol everywhere except where metal detectors are involved like the federal building and the county courthouse. I carry mine in a t-shirt holster so I don't have to worry about printing. I have found this to be the most comfortable way for me.
Our local mall also has signs posted outside the building but I just ignore it, but I dont frequent it very often. My philosophy is that if Walmart doesn't have it, I don't need it.

The State of Texas has very specific requirements for what constitutes a legal "No guns allowed" sign. If any signage does not meet the states requirements I ignore it. If state or federal law prohibits carrying a firearm I follow the law.;) If I have my firearms properly concealed the only way of detection would be via a metal detector.

    Very interesting comments!

I need to look into the Colorado statutes about the signage. I just thought it was kinda weird.

As for Dix escorting me to the door, all the large retail stores here do that. Gun shops, no. Even at Gander and Sportsmans Warehouse, when you purchase a gun they walk you to the door and hand it to you there. CCW or not.

    Default Malls/CCW

We don't have any malls that also have gun stores inside. The malls we do have prohibit CCW and as a result I don't set foot in them and call the management and let them know that they obviously care more about my money than my safety, including the parking lot, and that I will not patronize them.

Have bought ammo in sporting goods stores and the employee has to carry the ammo to the register in front. When I asked why I was told it was in case someone came in to buy ammo and had a gun. WHAT?????????????????? If someone came in with the intention of shooting up the place I think they'd bring enough with them. Just plain stupid.

No one has ever claimed that sheep were smart or had any common sense.

Decline--Your employer doesn't allow any weapons on the premises where the office is? I wouldn't think he/she could dictate what anyone carries when it's a delivery situation and you're out in public.

Whenever you use a company vehicle company rules appy. The vehicle is company property.

Another example of laws that make no sense: If working as a an unarmed Security Officer you may not carry a concealed firearm even if you are licensed to do so. (Texas)
