Well Scott, leave it to us to totally warp your thread. I apologize for my actions....and Bebo's!
So I take it from your post that you definitely have a shooter! Maybe someday we WILL GET PICS???

And yea, I know it was a teaser....much like your 'carry a spare' thread. You crack me up!

    Pics,Pics,Pics!!!

A buddy of mine growing up told me his Dad (Retired Marine Corps Drill Seargent) was selling a couple of his Garands. One was a M1 Garand-D (Sniper Model), I wanted to have it sooooo baaaaad! His Dad and I went shooting one time with one of his Garands, he had a .308 conversion sleeve that you put over the first round to fit in the chamber. After firing the first round it would remain in place to shoot other .308 rounds, then you had to knock it out with a cleaning rod... Classic piece of Americana there man, cherish it!

    Congrats!!!! I'm jealous!
It takes only seconds to call the police, waiting for them to arrive could take the rest of your life...

Not the M1 shooting "blanks." Duh! Re: new baby? I'd be curious how that happened as well.

A worthy purchase my friend. For it's time, it was the finest battle rifle on the planet. Reaching out 500 yards was well within reach for many shooters, and I used an enhanced version of it at sniper school.

Many congrats on the purchase and brief us on it's break-in. Just because the previous owner treated it as a "garage queen", it's no reason for you too.

I believe the only "previous owner" was the US Gov't, then CMP. The guy I purchased the gun from is a dealer and serious shooter. He doesn't own anything he can't shoot. The gun is in such great shape because it was never in private hands and was probably only issued to a soldier for annual qualification and weekend drill.

My error. I had the impression it was NIB.

Regardless, one of the finest killing machines of the 20 century. General Patton thought so too, and said so.

"New" as issued to the armory. I can't wait to go shoot it, take some pictures and give a report. I can't afford "NIB."
