You are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo right!!! When temp is 30 below with 30 mph winds any exposed skin starts to hurt in seconds.

Winter hikes are fun, but the weather can turn deadly on a dime. If it's a one day, back before dark hike, I'll pack for camping overnight just in case, with plenty of water and jerky. I prefer a single-action stainless .357 and a lever-action 45/70 on winter hikes. Old fashioned yes, but they tolerate the brutal conditions well. You'd be surprised what will freeze-up at these temps.

It's been in the mid seventies with sunshine out in Southern Arizona all winter long. Now we have a chance of snow in the next couple of days. I seriously doubt that it will be anything that requires a snow shovel...which is good because I'm pretty sure that nobody in Tucson owns one How many Smith and Wesson snubbies do you have hidden in that outfit Jim?

Oh surrrrrrre, go ahead and rub the "mid seventies" in our faces...LOL! I first hit Tucson in 1980 (were you even born yet? LOL!), loved it then, and miss it to this day. I've a feeling we'll be back someday.

Verrrrry good Tex, I see you've been paying attention. Well, seeing how I was just outside our front door, the answer is two, one in each of my jacket side pockets, both in a Desantis Nemesis Pocket Holster.

    Cool Weather

I also love the mountains. I lived in Powell Wyoming for three years and loved the area. I wish I could afford to have a place in the mountains and on the coast!
